What’s Your Point Of View

Picking the right room view can make or break your travel experience. Some resorts have several different options and it can be quite confusing for newbie travelers.

Resort, Courtyard and Garden views are your standard resort views. Nothing fancy, just views of the grounds or trees. Worst case scenario, you may get a view of another building.

Pool views are just that, you are guaranteed a view of the pool. I tend to stay away from these rooms. I go to bed early and some resort pools can stay open as late as 10pm.

Swim up rooms were my favorite, until I realized most swim up rooms had garden views. I need to see the ocean when I’m traveling. Premium swim up rooms have ocean front views.

Ocean view and ocean front rooms are always tripping people up. Most travelers think ocean view rooms have a full view of the ocean. Not really. A room can be called an ocean view room as long as there is a glimpse of the ocean. It can be a tiny glimpse and the resort is allowed to call it an ocean view room.

To avoid this issue all together, it’s best to book an oceanfront room, if available. Oceanfront rooms guarantee an unobstructed view of the ocean. Oceanfront rooms are normally on the higher floors and also closer to the beach. One downfall of an oceanfront room is it may be further from the restaurants and facilities of the resort. You may have to choose what’s important to you. Do you want the best view or be closer to the facilities on property?

Yes, there are several types of views, but these are the most common ones. For example, in Bora Bora there’s mountain views and lagoon views, but we’ll get into that on another day. I hope this information helps you along the planning process of your next getaway.
